I’m not going to lie, 2025 has definitely not started the way I wanted it to. For the first half of January, I was convinced I was on my way to finding the perfect nutritional balance that would make me feel good, lighter and more energetic.
All of that disappeared in the blink of an eye when I came down with the flu and ended up in bed for two weeks. Between the high temperatures, the nights of endless coughing and the lack of energy, I found it impossible to get up and cook a home-cooked meal. My weekly shop turned into bags of ready meals and ridiculous amounts of sugary snacks.
The result? I’ve gained another 4kg and I’m definitely not feeling my best. The after-effects of the illness, lack of exercise and poor quality food were really getting to me. What was I going to do? Having originally given myself 3 months at the beginning of the year to get back into shape, I knew I had to do something as that time had literally just been cut in half.
The solution? If you were to ask strangers on the internet, the most obvious would probably be to start going to the gym and trying to find a personal trainer to help me figure out what I need to do to regain control of my body.
However, I am socially awkward and initially very shy (and let’s face it, I don’t have any time to waste). On top of that, I live in a different country and even after 5 years here and mastering the language, it can still be a struggle to communicate with strangers.
So instead I turned to ChatGPT and asked for help. I told them exactly what I wanted to achieve and how much time I had available to achieve my goal. I also gave details of my personal food preferences, the sports equipment I have at home and more.
And guess what? It actually gave me what I wanted. It gave me approximate numbers on how much weight I should lose without reducing my daily calorie intake too much and still be able to exercise. The numbers seem reasonable; like numbers that could come from a professional. I was given a meal plan for the week with several options to choose from for each meal, all my preferences, and I could’ve even given it a full list of items I already had at home to reduce my food budget by probably 30%. On top of that, I also got a workout plan that we could go back and forth on until I was happy with it.
I am actually really excited because I am looking forward to the meals and having a bit more structure in my day. Getting away from the daily struggle of “What am I going to have for dinner? I am also looking forward to getting my exercise back into my daily routine because I really miss it.
I can’t wait to share my experiences with you very soon.
